It appears (from your review) that you were frustrated by the boy/man thing, and understandably so. It seems to me that the film is being marketed a little strangely; they're playing up the romantic angle, but as a romance it's problematic at best. I saw it more as a coming-of-age story, without the actual coming-of-age.
