It is an interesting take. I just don't see how they can expect to make any headway; has there ever been a successful reversal of a bio-invader like that?

Right. Either they're going to wipe out all but a few of the rats, in which case they'll rebound in a year or two, or they're going to do more damage than has already been done. Or both.
