Two Random Things + A Poll = A Post

Humongous rodent fossil found. I like the Yahoo! News headline: "King of the rats weighed one tonne." You just know that those rats remember it, too. You can see it in their crazed, vengeful eyes. WE RULED THIS WORLD ONCE AND WE WILL AGAIN, they say. I've heard them. In my brain.

Castro lives. Not shown: a private photograph of the dictator thumbing his nose at Perez Hilton.

Today's Poll:

[Poll #1122170]

Sterling poll work recently. Keep it up!

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
For some reason the poll inspiration comes in stretches. I'll do my best to keep on it.

I think I'd be more curious if the whole viral marketing thing wasn't so annoying. It's a giant monster movie. Trying to make it look hip and edgy feels slightly embarrassing, like some kid scrawling the name of his D&D character on the bathroom wall in the hopes the other students will all be wondering at who "Bladestar the Black" is when he goes in to pee.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
HA. That's exactly what it's like. It's also like the magic-in-a-bottle marketing campaign for "The Blair Witch Project," which people should know better than to try to duplicate.

[identity profile] the-flea-king.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha! Bladestar the Black. Apt comparison.

[identity profile] the-flea-king.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It has a giant monster. I don't care who's making it. My love for the daikaiju knows no bounds. Except for that stupid turtle that shoots flames out its ass.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, by that criteria, the Roland Emmerich/Dean Devlin "Godzilla" was worth seeing, and we both know that ain't true.

Right?

[identity profile] the-flea-king.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
If you pretend it isn't Godzilla, I find it much more bearable. I really liked the CG and creature design.

I will not speak of the plot. Or the acting.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It is an abomination and a sign of the apocalypse.

[identity profile] the-flea-king.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I have too high a tolerance of crap for my own good, I fear.

[identity profile] infinitehotel.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you seen D-War yet? Korean daikaiju, made in LA with b-list actors. Awful, and not in a good way.

[identity profile] the-flea-king.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas, I did watch it, but on fast forward. I didn't care for the creature design, and the acting was not even funny-bad.

[identity profile] scarypudding.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
But Gamera is a friend to children! All together now: Gamera is really neat / Gamera is filled with meat / We all love you Ga-me-ra!

[identity profile] 10yroldwhizkid.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll go if someone else pays, but I would sit peacefully because Janis from Mean Girls is in it and I've watched that movie so much that I think she is my close and personal friend.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Janis? The not-mean one that wears the tux to the prom?

[identity profile] 10yroldwhizkid.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
yes indeedy, the "art freak" herself

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I love her.

[identity profile] burger-eater.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I knew that giant rat link would give me the willies, and yet I clicked on it anyway.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Bwa-ha-ha-ha!

This is all one subject, isn't it?

[identity profile] scarypudding.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, it'd take a damn big rodent to actually bestride those prehistoric swamps. Unless they were really small swamps.

Re: This is all one subject, isn't it?

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know if I'm comfortable with labeling Castro a daikaiju . . .

Re: This is all one subject, isn't it?

[identity profile] scarypudding.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I forgot about that part. Well, how about Perez Hilton?

Re: This is all one subject, isn't it?

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah. He's totally . . . something.

Even if it's only there to throw popcorn at, I'm excited for Cloverfield, even if I hate myself afterward.

Lost's the only current show I go out of my way to watch, and JJ jumped in after Clover began and he's probably more involved in the hype-making than the film-making, but I have a visceral adoration for intimate apocalypses.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-01-17 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a lapsed "Lost" watcher -- they lost me a short ways into Season Two. It's true that Abrams didn't direct or write this film, so who knows? Maybe I'll check it out on DVD :-)

[identity profile] readingthedark.livejournal.com 2008-01-23 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
i liked clover more than nihil or bmac.
