Superpowers, Boylston (Boston) Borders

So, yup. Today is the day. I have been, frankly, nothing but anxiety for the past few weeks, but today I am feeling pretty Zen about this whole thing. It's not, after all, as though I have a lot of control over what happens from here. (Although I know that my Dad is going around to every bookstore in the area and facing it out. You rock, Dad.) All I'll say is, the first couple of weeks' sales are crucial, so if you're thinking about maybe buying the book at some point, maybe you could think about buying it like, now. Just a thought :-)

A couple of links: Niall gives the book the sort of thoughtful review that makes all of this worthwhile; Annalee at io9 gives the book a shout-out. Also, apparently the book got a major plug in the magazine PiQ which I have never seen but which I love.

A reminder, too, about the reading on Thursday at Dreamhaven: 7:30, 912 West Lake Street in Minneapolis, be there or miss it. Here's the bio I gave them:

David's secret identity is known only to the Saint Paul Curling Club, the Shadow Hanseatic League, and a hyperintelligent squirrel named Chester. Because of the need for secrecy he hand-washes his costumes, and fights crime only when it is convenient. Authorities estimate that his short stories have caused as much crime as they have prevented, and do not recommend tugging on his cape.

Go on now, little book. Make me proud.

Excellent, man.

I'm about to do a bit of a push for it myself...

;)

I read some more of it at lunch today! You should be very proud. Good luck with the sales! I hope everyone buys a copy. :)

Congratulations!

YAYAYAY! I wish so much that I could be there at your reading. I'ma text you something fierce, so better turn down your ringer volume unless you want to get beeped constantly in the middle of a chapter.

Picked it up on Saturday. Turned my store's other copy face out.
Read it Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Rather liked it.
Review coming as soon as I have time to write it.

buying the book

Would you rather I purchase from online (Amazon) or locally (Borders-Boston). Or wait until Readercon in the dealers room?

Would love to make the reading, but alas, too far to travel.

I WAS JUST COMPLAINING ABOUT HAVING NOTHING TO READ. NOW I HAVE NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT.

HUZZAH!

On its way from Amazon! I paired it with Walking Dead Book One to add some zombie goodness to the mix ;)

I would just like to mention that while I would have faced the books if I'd had to, they already were. And I thought two rows of them would just be greedy.

[identity profile] haddayr.livejournal.com 2008-06-11 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
WoooHOOOOOOO! I ordered two books at Magers & Quinn and told him you were local, so to order more to keep in stock. He said he would.

Dude, I will totally run around San Francisco facing your book out, plus buy a copy this week from an independent bookstore.

Also, I know Annalee so I can give her the positive reinforcement for her shoutout.

Yay. I plan on emailing later today.

I tried to buy your damn uppity book at B&N, but I couldn't find it on the shelves. So (since I had checked online that they had it) I had to go to the info desk. And do you know where they took me? To the "fiction" section, where they keep the women books and the memoirs about dying puppies! So I hope you're happy, Mr. "I write the fiction" Schwartz! Happy!

My copy is on the way from Amazon. Score. :)

Congrats! Talk about awesome placement on the shelves! :) When my big day comes (one of these days), I'll be in the SA's, which also isn't too shabby a location. :)

Congrats!

I got my copies today and I am so excited for you, it looks terrific! Gift of the year, I say, I'm about to get ordering more for some other admirers here in Chicago. I'll do my part facing the book out here in the windy city, as long as you promise to come down soon to do a reading (and visit!!)

There are four copies (2 on-order) in the Metropolitan Library System in Illinois already. There's already a hold on one of the available copies, so way to go! I recommended it for my library, but the head librarian vets all our orders, so here's hoping it makes the cut! I bought my own copy, of course. Yay Dave! :)

[identity profile] jlundberg.livejournal.com 2008-06-13 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Happy (belated) Book Day, Dave! As soon as I can make it over to Kinokuniya, I'm'a snag my own copy.

And congrats on your sale to Polyphony! We're ToC-mates!
