The Superficial Post

Y'know, the singing-n-dancing is the one thing that mitigates my Hugh Jackman man-crush.

At least we got Beyoncé in a top hat.

Kate Winslet in a tux would have been better.

Kate Winslet without a tux would have restored their ratings.

Kate sez she's going to stop doing nudity so she isn't known just as "that girl who's always losing her kit."

Dude! The Reader. Watch it. Or at least the first half. I mean, watch the whole thing, but the first half is relevant to this post.

For serious? You don't like song-and-dance?

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
I do, actually, but it's all about context, and this was just embarrassing.

Dude, dancing Hugh Jackman? Hotter than Wolverine Hugh Jackman.

In that number? The Original Song medley is soooo much more entertaining.

I think it's hot when a guy does the song and dance thing, period, I'm just saying. Especially when it's Wolverine! The whole show is better than I can remember in ages, and I really appreciate that he's only been on stage to do what he was hired to do (host, and do a couple of numbers), rather than make the whole thing about him.

Now if you want to talk about the unfortunate placement of Beyonce's fringe, we can talk.

(The number struck me as ambitious and referential at once, and probably not wholly successful, but way better than what we usually get. And I loved the Hathaway as Nixon bit.)

Oh, and before I fall asleep and vow to watch the rest tomorrow, the thing I liked most is that during all the song and dance numbers he actually seemed to be having fun. I like that in a performance.

I thought he was a decent host, overall, although I tend to drift away and do other things between awards so I missed a fair amount of him. And I missed a large chunk of the beginning, including the opening number, which might have been--hopefully was--better than the awful musicals medley.

No Hugh Jackman is hotter than Wolverine Hugh Jackman.

I'm of the opinion that singing and dancing should never sully my television or movie screens, but yeah! Kate Winslet.

She won!!! Yay Kate!!!

[identity profile] rnb.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
That made me very happy.
