I think I'm agnostic on both.

We adored it while growing up. I should watch it again, see if it's better or worse now. And Time Bandits.

I haven't seen Darkman or Serenity (although Serenity is next on my Netflix queue.) I wish I hadn't seen the two Star Trek movies (or any episode of any series), but alas. Star Trek IV made me want to punch a whale or William Shatner or both.

Repo Man is a great movie, but it's not a geek movie.

The Fifth Element is a lot of fun if you're not expecting a great sci-fi movie.

Shaun of the Dead had such a great first act but never really took it anywhere interesting.

No Blade Runner?!

The sequels made no sense. The story was completely done at the end of the first movie. It didn't have anywhere else to go. So they changed the story. Ridiculous.

Darkman is more in the class of films that are great to watch in a group so as to ridicule it while watching; it's not terrible, but it is silly.

Totally with you on Repo Man. It's punk, or maybe punk noir. Kiss Me Deadly with torn jeans.

I just can't get behind this list. While Repo Man and Brazil happen to be in my top 5, I thought the Matrix was derivative Cliff's Notes nonsense, and Dark City couldn't hold a shot for more than 3 seconds. And no Blade Runner?
I'll watch the Fifth Element, though. It's not genius, but sometimes I'm just in the mood for live action Heavy Metal comic/movie (Stargate is also good for that.)

It sounds like I enjoyed Dark City a little more than you did, but otherwise, yeah.

Except, Stargate? Really?

[identity profile] infanttyrone.livejournal.com 2007-02-09 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
I thought Dark City was alright, but the spazzy camera work kinda spoiled it for me.
And I'm not saying Stargate is one of my favorites-- I think it's a perfect example of a great premise/terrible execution film.

I've seen most of those, aside from Serenity, Darkman, War Games, Holy Grail, and Repo Man. Ok, looks like I've got some Tivoing to do!

I second the recommendation someone else made for Donnie Darko. It's seriously weird stuff, AND it has a bizarre and disturbing giant rabbit *shudder*

Well, War Games and Darkman can probably wait. (Honestly, I'm not sure why War Games is on that list.) But the other three, definitely.

And Donnie Darko is awesome; no argument here.
