Yeah, BB trumps Darkman, although it's hard for me to dis anything Raimi.

The Matrix was like geek porn, and I kind of hated it. It looked pretty, but it was all "I'm actually very important! I can download badassery into my brain! A pretty girl's love will save me!" Bah.

Are you saying that pretty girls don't have all powerful love?

[identity profile] tanaise.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe you don't know the right pretty girls.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Are we talking about religion again?

[identity profile] tanaise.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
No, that would be the right *kind* of pretty girls.

I think I'm agnostic on both.

It's curative powers re: bullet wounds are drastically overrated.

The stuff inbetween the lines is what I liked best about Matrix, and the sequels subsequently ruined it. It could be my days of playing Shadowrun, but I love the idea of a ragtag group of more-powerful-than normal rebels fighting against and blank and corporate entity that is nearly omniscient.

It was like they took a hacker asthetic, of the misfits fighting the system, and gave it a hollywood polish. Neo should have been a 240 pound pasty guy with an acne problem and hard drives full of porn.

(Remember the scene in the beginning, when someone comes by and buys something from Neo on a disk? What could that have been but really kinky porn!)

If Neo had been a 240 pound pasty guy I might have loved that movie.

It would have made the scenes involving Kung Fu much more wild. It's easy to believe that someone with Keanu's build can by spry. Someone with my build? Not so much.

He was pretty pasty though.

[identity profile] tanaise.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Pasty, perhaps, but he still weighed less than me.

Not with all that leather on, probably.

Him, not you.

The sequels made no sense. The story was completely done at the end of the first movie. It didn't have anywhere else to go. So they changed the story. Ridiculous.

I didn't care for Darkman. I watched the whole movie wondering why, if his fake skin reacted with sunlight, he didn't go around in the dark? It was Batman by Day.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-02-08 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it was totally a Batman riff. Mostly I like it for its cheesiness, but Raimi has made much better films.
