I spent last week in the desert near Joshua Tree National Park with four very talented and lovely people. We did lots of writing and spent lots of time in the hot tub and saw lots of stars and drank . . . some. I took some pictures. Here they are.

I have a Joshua tree and a mountain view in my front yard! Um, though the Joshua tree looks rather a lot like somebody decapitatated a pineapple, then left it half-buried in the ground.

My plants lead good lives.

(What I can't get over is the fact that you claim to have been writing: I would have spent the entire time in a nonstop talking hypomanic fit, trying to drag people into the hot tub or into the mountains to do some rock climbing or to explore the palm canyons or to just stare at the desert sunsets. Writing! That's nuts.)

Sorry, but yeah, we wrote. A lot. We chilled in the evenings, but we didn't even make it into the park.

Aw! That wasn't my intent. Just, the purpose of the trip was to get heads down and Get Shit Done. We talked some about going into the park and hiking, but as it turned out we were all too protective of the time we had for writing. Next time, for sure.

I haven't been to the desert since 1992. Do the stars still look like that? All shimmery and close and tons and tons and tons of them?

Yes. Millions and millions and millions! I felt very dumb for only knowing three constellations.
