Oh. My. God.

I've never been a fan of Alanis Morissette. Until now, because she just did a cover of "My Humps."

EDIT: [livejournal.com profile] rnb points to Nina Gordon's cover of "Straight Outta Compton."

My boss just forwarded that to me! But there's a software conflict on my computer that makes YouTube play without audio. I think I'm better off...and you don't really need audio, now do you?

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's worth hearing, because she definitely puts her stamp on it . . . but you're right, the visuals do a lot of the work. I'm dazzled by her willingness to make such savage fun of Fergie and herself at the same time.

I never was a fan, and now am TOTALLY not a fan.

That song makes me want to kill myself.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
She's totally parodying it, though. It's a thing of genius.

[identity profile] ccfinlay.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
O.M.G.

Brilliant.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, right? I can almost forgive her for muddying the definition of "ironic."

[identity profile] ccfinlay.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I think she's now demonstrated sufficient understanding of the concept of irony that I can completely forgive her.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! You make a compelling argument.

[identity profile] readingthedark.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, she's 100% off the hook for misusing ironic.

Please remember how silly she was as God in Dogma.

PS -- I listened to that Nina Gordon cover for like eight hours straight when I first heard it. And, perhaps more importantly, I finally read the first collected Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. and it was spectacular.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, she was pretty good in Dogma. I had some problems with the movie overall, but she was good.

Yay Nextwave! So brilliant.

[identity profile] rnb.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
You've seen Straight Outta Compton covered by Nina Gordon, yeah? It's great because the original song is actually pretty awesome in its own right.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man! I hadn't seen that, no. Yeah, N.W.A. is pretty amazing, as long as you don't take them completely seriously.

[identity profile] rnb.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know what you mean. They were angry, they had a great reason to be, they made the music that angry over the top people should be making. It's not life.

[identity profile] coalescent.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
This is probably even better than Ben Folds' cover of "Bitches Ain't Shit".

Although what I really want to know is why YouTube thinks the next thing I will want to watch is a video about farting in public.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if you can't figure it out, I'm certainly not going to be the one to explain it.

I think they'll cover it in Blades of Glory.

[identity profile] bondgwendabond.livejournal.com 2007-04-03 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
I love the version of this where Folds cracks himself up right at the beginning when he says "hoes."

[identity profile] snale.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I never liked Alanis because she seemed so self-involved and angry. Now that she has a sense of humor, I <3 her for realz.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-04-03 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'm right there with you, on all points.

[identity profile] haddayr.livejournal.com 2007-04-03 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Now I have to love her forever.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-04-03 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. It is inescapable.

[identity profile] haddayr.livejournal.com 2007-04-03 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
And now I hafta love Nina Gordon, who I've never heard of before.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-04-03 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
She made me miss Eazy E.

[identity profile] shaolingrrl.livejournal.com 2007-04-03 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Keep corrupting me like this! I bet you!

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-04-03 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to pretend I didn't see the comment below, and say, "BET ME WHAT?!? HUH?"

[identity profile] shaolingrrl.livejournal.com 2007-04-03 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Oooo, I was trying to come up with something, and then I looked right into Chow Yun Fat's--gun. Guh.

Something stupid about a pair of lady lumps or something.

[identity profile] shaolingrrl.livejournal.com 2007-04-03 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Crap. That was supposed to be "beg". So much for my drive-by comment.
