Exene Cervenka and the Original Sinners

The highlight of my holiday weekend had to be seeing Exene at the Hideout. Knuckel Drager opened; I'd not heard them before, but they were pretty entertaining for a surf metal band. Had to be the monster masks. But Exene rocked the house and got me off my ass. Some X tunes in the mix, a lot of solo stuff, and some covers. ("Ghost On the Highway"!!! Awesome!) I may have to start wearing earplugs, but I hope I never get too old to go to shows.

I was _born_ too old to go to shows.

And when I go, I always wear ear plugs. :-P

Sometimes I think I'm getting there. I usually hang at the back, sitting down if possible. But I forget about ear plugs.

My "supersonic hearing" would not allow me to forget ear plugs. If I do, I go to the women's room and stuff my ears with toilet paper, otherwise I am in constant agony.

I'm old, but resourceful!

The Hideout reminds me of one of my favorite local venues here in Denton, Secret Headquarters.

Nothin' like a beer and a rock show.

Is SQ set back amid a bunch of warehouses which are dark at night where you might think someone was taking you to bump you off?

This "rock show" thing, it seems to be a colloquialism which I have not until recently encountered. I may have to conduct a survey.

In fact, it is: right next to Morrison's Corn Kits. A large grain-silo/cornbread kit factory. Other industries and derelict buildings abound.

I've never thought about "rock show." We use show and "rock show" interchangeably here. I wonder if it's a regionalism.

Lucky.

Maybe she's coming to your town soon!

Please tell me they played "Los Angeles". I love that song. One of my early forays into punk.

Sadly they did not. A couple of other X tunes, though.

"Ghost on the Highway," eh? Good stuff. Extremely good stuff.

It was. I found out about the show last-minute, and I'm really glad I went.
