Music Geekery + I'M PIG-BITING MAD!

OK, both [livejournal.com profile] ludickid and [livejournal.com profile] mrdankelly have done this, and I'm just enough of a music geek to go along. Here's an alphabetical list of performers/musicians by whom I have five or more albums:

Beck
Bowie
The Cars
Neko Case
Johnny Cash
Dance Hall Crashers
Miles Davis
Dylan
Guided By Voices
Lyle Lovett
Aimee Mann
The Mendoza Line
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Old 97s
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
The Police
Prince
The Ramones
The Replacements
Superchunk
Talking Heads
Tom Waits
Wilco
Stevie Wonder
Wu-Tang Clan

Conclusion: five albums is a lot. Five albums worth buying is a particularly tall order. (I'm not sure the Cars would qualify if that were the criteria, though they could fill a two- or three-disc Greatest Hits collection . . .)

In other news (via [livejournal.com profile] ebess) The Weekly World News is shutting down. NOOOOOO!!!! I can't believe it! BatBoy I can take or leave, but the WWN is the only paper that provides the real news, like Satan's face appearing in cloud formations, or which congresspeople are in fact aliens. Not to mention the wonder that is Ed Anger (source of the second half of the post title). Man alive, this is just wrong. I'm of a mind to take up the Yeti beat myself, or something. The void that this will leave cannot be calculated, I am telling you.

Partial substitutes: 1) Google on "Heribert Illig"

2) Google on "lizards" and "hollow Earth".

The Illig was news to me, that's for sure. I'd heard about the hollow earth stuff a little, though.

I think what I will miss most about the WWN are things like Psychic Serena telling readers in her column that their problem is too serious to be addressed in print and that she (and her mother!) will be over right away to help exorcise the demons.

Let's pave the stupid rainforests and give schoolteachers stun guns

This is indeed bad news. When I was between relationships and an old friend was between husbands, she and I would buy a 12 of beer and a WWN and go get drunk and read to each other. Good times, good times. I'm part of the problem, though...I think the last WWN I bought had "Janet's miracle boob healed me!" on the cover. Love the bat boy. And the "Texas schoolgirl who can put 3 pool balls in her mouth!"

Yeah, I have to admit I haven't bought it regularly in a while, either. Now I won't be able to!
