Man Shall Not Say No To Ape

I want to see this movie, like, right now. Sadly I will have to wait until March.

Yesterday I finished The Stolen Lake, and Holy Crap. I have never read Joan Aiken before, and I am retroactively designating myself an idiot for that. I loved this book. So weird, and funny, and dark, and [livejournal.com profile] alicek is awesome for loaning it to me and enlightening me on this matter. DUDES I WANT A SPINNING GEOTHERMAL-POWERED HOUSE. Also a flying ship. (Kind of a given, I know.) I'll pass on the long-tailed cats, though, as I am allergic.

Speaking of animals, the promised Animal Overlord Poll:

If you properly appreciated LXG, you wouldn't have to wait. I personally am impatiently waiting for Penelope.

Also, Joan Aiken ROCKS. I lent Hannah the complete Dido collection (From The Wolves of Willoby Chase through to Dido and Pa, at least), and she ignored them for 18 months, so NO LOVE FOR HER. It helps greatly to read them in order, particularly for any books past The Stolen Lake. (hmm. My company put out the set I have, so I think I can get more copies for very little. I should look into that.)

I was forced to edit this post to mention that my favorite of the books is still Nightbirds on Nantucket, followed closely by Dido and Pa and Blackhearts at Battersea, followed by the rest of them. The newer ones aren't as good, but still better than most.

I've decided, purely out of personal interest, to throw my support behind my parents' dogs.

It looks like it's going to be a close race. I guess this means I should start doing some push-polling!

Would it surprise you to know that Bear-Cub-In-A-Sock supports the eating of both puppies AND babies?

Yay for the discovery of Joan Aiken! You have much fun reading ahead.

Cats are already the animal overlords...that's what I was trying to say. I'm hoping things go better for me if I vote for them from the git-go.

"From the git-go." Oh man.

Working hard?

You forgot dragons. AGAIN.

Interestingly, I checked out The Wolves Of Willoughby Chase a few days ago from the library. This after years of Aiken's praises being sung by a friend of mine. I guess I'm a slow starter.

What! Only one vote for the octopus! This is an outrage.
