What About the Voice of Geddy Lee?

Archaeology! Ancient City Found in Mexico! Village Discovered Near Stonehenge! Police to Reunite! (At the f*&%ing Grammys. Now I have to watch the Grammys. Someone kill me.)

Warren Ellis subjects us all to shares an excerpt from Jeff Lint Steve Aylett's surreal parody comic "The Caterer." SMOOTHING THE CHEEK OF REALITY HAS ITS DANGERS!

Hannah links to the poem "Library" by Albert Goldbarth, which turns out to be awesome.

I have discovered that, along with those annoying ads along the side, I have been given the power of polls. Bwah-hah-hah-hah!

Here's the thing. I am, by most objective measures, a fairly geeky person. But I find that many things which are considered more or less core geek loves drive me up the wall. Perhaps you are also somewhat geeky, and encounter this same phenomenenonon. This poll is for you!

[Poll #917082]

oh my GOD get over the Battlestar Galactica hate!

It was cute back when the rest of us all loved BG, but now you're just rubbing our noses in it.

Especially Buffy. For me. Being screamed at by a nazi nun from hell for an hour would be more fun that listening to Sarah Michelle Geller whine.

Babylon 5? The Cartoon Network Adult Swim shows? Doctor Who?

(I love Geddy Lee, man. It's just his lyrics gives me the twitches.)

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
What, everybody doesn't still love it?

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. The post title actually has nothing to do with the poll; it's just a Stephen Malkmus lyric that popped into my head.

I've not seen those other things, at least not recently. No cable.

[identity profile] jamiam.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I would be a better person without cable.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
For me SMG was never the best thing about the show, although she did grow on me. But I won't try to evangelize you :-)

[identity profile] tanaise.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved the show, I hated her. Episodes in which other people got to be cool where thus my favorites. (okay, by the end of the series, I just strongly disliked her.)

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
By Season 4 or 5 I'd decided that I thought she was actually a pretty good actress--I just found Buffy somewhat inaccessible as a character, especially as time went on.

(Also, Harry Potter? I LOVE Harry Potter. And Lone Wolf and Cub is the greatest work of graphic storytelling ever.)

[identity profile] the-flea-king.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
She was pretty much my barrier to entry that I never got over. I'll watch an episode here and there, but I never got into it.

But I was a Firefly fan when it was first on the air (unlike all these poseur DVD converts!). Heh.

[identity profile] the-flea-king.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I will second and third the Babylon 5. I seriously cannot watch that show without cracking up at how wooden the acting is.

[identity profile] tanaise.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It is possible that I was totally guessing.

Well, not totally. Since some things I knew. They just didn't seem like enough things for you to hate, so I hadd to add others.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Fair enough.

I'm right there with you on Firefly. I loved it and mourn it still.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I ended up with only six. I expected there would be more.

[identity profile] tanaise.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I would have included "everything" on the list, of course.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. It's my first poll! I'm still learning!

[identity profile] jennreese.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Um. I still love it. I think it has problems, but I think the problems stem largely from taking risks and frequently failing. I don't always enjoy it, but I do respect it.

Oh, god, when we were in Las Vegas a week or two ago, we had this one blackjack dealer who was -hysterically- bizarre. He had a near-constant stream of geeky math jokes, talked a lot about old computer games, is really into some air-pellet type of paintball, and made everyone at the table shout "Hoo-rah" (Marines-style) whenever he busted. But the best, absolute best, part of the experience was when he started talking about Babylon 5, and how it was the best show to ever be on television, ever, no exceptions.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I'm not saying you shouldn't. I created the poll basically to just acknowledge my personal prejudices and hopefully exorcise them a bit, so I don't find myself gritting my teeth so much when other people geek out. Because when I'm geeking out I find the teeth-gritters annoying, too. It's just different tastes.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Hoo-rah!

[identity profile] jamiam.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
... as far as I can tell from here, you were taking cards from my ex-boyfriend.

[identity profile] gregvaneekhout.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Geddy Lee! You said Geddy Lee! GEDDY LEE ROCKS!

New Rush studio album coming out late spring/early summer.

GEDDY LEE!

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Stimulus, response. :-P

(Did you see Jackie dissing Rush lyrics up there?)

[identity profile] susansugarspun.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Does your ex-boyfriend bear a striking resemblance to Steve Buscemi, and was he ever kicked out of the Army after spending a long weekend drinking and ending up in jail in Tallahassee with no memory of how he got there? I'm guessing no, but if so, you'll be pleased to know that Las Vegas is treating him well!

"Ignorance and prejudice and fear walk hand in hand."

Which, translated from the Canadian, means "Pphhhhht!"
