Archaeology! Ancient City Found in Mexico! Village Discovered Near Stonehenge! Police to Reunite! (At the f*&%ing Grammys. Now I have to watch the Grammys. Someone kill me.)
Warren Ellissubjects us all to shares an excerpt from Jeff Lint Steve Aylett's surreal parody comic "The Caterer." SMOOTHING THE CHEEK OF REALITY HAS ITS DANGERS!
Hannah links to the poem "Library" by Albert Goldbarth, which turns out to be awesome.
I have discovered that, along with those annoying ads along the side, I have been given the power of polls. Bwah-hah-hah-hah!
Here's the thing. I am, by most objective measures, a fairly geeky person. But I find that many things which are considered more or less core geek loves drive me up the wall. Perhaps you are also somewhat geeky, and encounter this same phenomenenonon. This poll is for you!

Date: 2007-01-30 05:16 pm (UTC)It was cute back when the rest of us all loved BG, but now you're just rubbing our noses in it.

Date: 2007-01-30 05:56 pm (UTC)That's AWESOME to you!
Also, which Star Trek are we talking about?
Six tickies in the 'you' (by which I mean me) box for Alias. But I think we've discussed that.

Date: 2007-01-30 06:00 pm (UTC)I was picking on Star Trek in general, because if we get down to cases it's complicated.
Yes on Alias. And then there's the thing that Abrams is supposed to be doing the next Trek film. So there's some kind of confluence of badness there.
Why does everyone think I hate Harry Potter?

Date: 2007-01-30 05:57 pm (UTC)I'm a huge Buffy and Firefly fan, but I've never been able to enjoy Angel.
I also don't like Napoleon Dynamite. I've almost been stoned for this admission on several occasions.

Date: 2007-01-30 06:04 pm (UTC)"Napoleon Dynamite" was kind of like "The Gods Must Be Crazy" for me, in that the film was a third done before I figured out I was supposed to be laughing. I did end up liking it, though.

Date: 2007-01-30 07:12 pm (UTC)Pan's Labyrinth is neato but The Devil's Backbone was special too. I'm still confused how the first part of a shared-world trilogy can get so little attention and part two can come along and be lauded so mightily without mentioning the first.
I'm loosey-goosey on Heroes. Every episode has something I like, but it has gaps and the "story" is mish-mashed.
I tried to hate SMG and failed miserably, becoming smitten by that which I expected to repulse me. My geekdom is incarnate on many levels and Buffy (and the whole damn Scooby gang) is certainly one of them. Someday I'll watch Angel.
Harry Potter doesn't do it for me. I've tried and failed there too.
The first Evil Dead is lovely. I'm glad they didn't make comedy sequels...oh wait...
Serenity and what I've seen of Firefly are worth seeking out the rest of Firefly.
Victoria Beckham is overrated.
X-files and Dario Argento are still underrated, in my little world.
Supernatural has grown on me suddenly, as has dried fruit. Perhaps it has even grown on me like a dried fruit.
I think I plead and / or feign ignorance on the rest, unless Kill Bill counts as a Kung Fu movie.
Jesus wants to be ugly,
G.
