It's Difficult to Make James Taylor Allusions, His Words Have a Very Specific Rhythm

Am leaving tomorrow early, on a jet plane. Will be largely incommunicado until I come back again in a week. I can think of two things I want to tell you. One, the first issue of Buffy Season 8 is out in comic stores as we speak. It's pretty cool. Some time has passed, a lot has happened, and certain beloved characters are held in abeyance (no doubt for future issues). There is the funny. This is the first ish of an ongoing series, but it's about as official as you can get, 'cause Joss is writing it. If you are a Buffy fan you will probably want this. If you are a Buffy fan who doesn't like comics, well, you do realize that Buffy was pretty much a comic book put on TV, don't you? Hold your nose and go buy it.

Two is also TV-related but not-so-good. Veronica Mars is in serious danger of cancellation. That, or a majorly weird format change which I am pretty "whahuh?" about. Honestly, my feelings about this are mixed enough that I won't be writing any letters; after the masterpiece of the first season the show has become a rather frustrating mess, albeit a very charming one. But if you're the sort that writes those letters, there's an address at the link above.

Finally, in honor of the holiday, a meme:

I've only seen the first season of VM and like it for reasons I'm not quite sure about (and I'm afraid, deep down inside, that the reason I like it is because there's a really cute girl in it who occasionally wears stompy boots.) Having said that, the article makes it sound like there's not much hope of saving it. A format change would be as good as death, and if they're considering things that drastic, it's already on life support. Oy.

Yeah, I'm not too hopeful, although last-minute saves have happened in the past. On the other hand, I once spent an evening in a bar with a bunch of strangers writing postcards to sponsors trying to save Firefly, and nobody listened.

Yes to the cuteness of Kristen Bell. (And seriously. Stilleto heels are meh, but a girl in stompy boots? Dayum.)

I got Turkish! The quiz didn't even HAVE Greek!

No Norwegians, either. I guess 'cause we won't play nice with our oil.

I read the comic last night and thought it was pretty good, if a little odd since so much has obviously happened since we saw these characters last. I was actually most excited by a note in the letters section that says Joss is working on another Serenity comic :)

That was one of the things I liked about it, actually. 'Cause we'll get backstory at the same time as story. I can't wait to find out what happened to Faith!

backstory at the same time as story is the main reason I think Veronica Mars season 1 worked as well as it did, and is the reason the show hasn't been nearly as well written since then.

mine wasn't too far off, either

Well, I think you are, actually. Or the same amount. Don't you have one grandparent who is Irish?

I don't really count the Scotch-Irish from my mother's side, although I suppose I could.

By blood, I guess I might be. My dad's mom was 1/2 Irish. Culturally it's no contest.

Oh. Blood OR culture, then. My dad is the one who was 1/2 Irish.

What do I win? What do I win?

The quiz presented me with a tiebreaker. If I like noodles, I'm Italian, if I like artificial food coloring I'm Danish.

WTF?

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2007-03-24 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
You know how it is with those Danish. Always dyeing the pastries.
