That Movie Meme

It just feels like that kind of a day, so here you go. (via [livejournal.com profile] iamza)

Meme rules:
1. Pick 15 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Fill in the film title once it's guessed.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions to make/confirm your guesses. Totally cheating, you dirty cheaters.

1. "Just for tonight, we are David and Ruth Laskin. Which one do you want to be? I prefer to be Ruth, but I'm flexible." ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, as pointed out by [livejournal.com profile] infinitehotel.

7. "Also, you'll find a pair of safety glasses and some earplugs under your seats. Please feel free to use them." RUSHMORE, as pointed out by [livejournal.com profile] veejane.

8. "I'm not some old man! Or a wounded prisoner! Motherfucker . . . Don't you dare touch the girl. You won't be the first pig I've gutted!" PAN'S LABYRINTH, as pointed out by [livejournal.com profile] o_kiki.

9. "Your only mistake is that you didn't dump her first. [REDACTED] is a show pony. You need a stallion, my friend. Walk with us and you walk tall." SAY ANYTHING, as pointed out by [livejournal.com profile] infinitehotel.

10. "Can you keep a secret? I'm trying to organize a prison break. I'm looking for, like, an accomplice. We have to first get out of this bar, then the hotel, then the city, and then the country. Are you in or you out?" LOST IN TRANSLATION, as pointed out by [livejournal.com profile] the_flea_king.

11. "Why would a reviewer make the point of saying someone's *not* a genius? Do you especially think I'm *not* a genius? . . . You didn't even have to think about it, did you?" THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS, as pointed out by [livejournal.com profile] mrdankelly.

On the first day, I'll be waited upon... For requests, ask the neighbor. If someone stumbles over my legs, he'll have to apologize. I'll be pushed around, and I'll push back. In the crowded bar, the bartender will find me a table. A service car will stop, and the mayor will take me aboard. I'll be known to everyone, and suspect to no one. I won't say a word, and will understand every language. That will be my first day." WINGS OF DESIRE, as pointed out by [livejournal.com profile] mastadge.

15. "Okay. But, I'm saying, it's like, I don't want to cram in sex or guns or car chases, you know . . . or characters, you know, learning profound life lessons or growing or coming to like each other or overcoming obstacles to succeed in the end, you know. I mean . . . the book isn't like that, and life isn't like that. You know, it just isn't. And . . . I feel very strongly about this." [identity profile] livia-llewellyn.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
NOOOO!!! I was so close to being first! Damn you!!

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. Seconds too late!

[identity profile] livia-llewellyn.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
You dare laugh? Oh, my friend, so many valentines are coming your way. So many....

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, it's NOT AT ALL funny.

It's not too late to identify something else!

[identity profile] stephanieburgis.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry. ;)

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
You got it.

[identity profile] livia-llewellyn.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't need no stinkin' Google, I know this movie like the back of my hand: #6 is Marion in "Raiders of the Lost Ark".

[identity profile] ilovehpl.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
OOO OOO OOO!

#4, LA Confidential!

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Word. You got it.

[identity profile] infinitehotel.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
#13 is Princess Bride
#11 is Lady in the Water
#15 is Adaptation
#9 is Say Anything

And damn it, I saw #1 but the name is stuck. It'll jolt me awake some time after midnight and I will curse the name Schwartz.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Right on all but #11; I've never even seen that movie.

[identity profile] infinitehotel.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Aha! #1 is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Bingo!

[identity profile] the-flea-king.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
10-- Lost in Translation?

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Right again.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup.

[identity profile] veejane.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
5. "Have you got a cop called Vodka?"

I bet this is from Hard-Boiled, which is kinda unfair, inasmuch as it's line in translation. (Also, your icon usage gives you away!)

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Right on all counts :-) I thought about the translation issue, but in the end I decided I didn't care and included three foreign flicks anyway.

[identity profile] veejane.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
And come to think, #7 sounds like Rushmore.

I don't know about the other foreign films.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Right again!

[identity profile] mrdankelly.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
#11 is Eli Cash in Royal Tenenbaums

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes!

[identity profile] ecmyers.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
#12: Evil Dead?

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, the judges want you to be more specific.

[identity profile] ecmyers.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Doh! Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn!

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes!

And THANK GOD someone finally got that one. I'm disappointed in everyone who is not you. I can't be the only one who's seen that movie five hundred times.

[identity profile] ecmyers.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. I love those movies! I might be the only one who still has ED2 on laserdisc--it's blood red! Some guy made a video about it though, so he probably still has his. Why do people make these videos?

[identity profile] mastadge.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
#2 is Dog Day Afternoon.

#14 is Wings of Desire, which I only just saw for the first time.

the other that hasn't been said sounds familiar, but I can't quite place it.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
You are correct, Sir!

[identity profile] o-kiki.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
#8: Pan’s Labyrinth.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! Dingdingdingdingdingdingding! :-)

[identity profile] o-kiki.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
TWO Guillermo del Torro movies on the list! Awesome. Have you seen The Orphanage? Sadly, I have not. Looooved Pan's Labyrith. One of the most beautiful movies I've seen in a long time.

[identity profile] snurri.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yes: he is a fave of mine. I have not seen The Orphanage as yet, and may not until it's out on DVD. But yeah: Pan's Labyrinth blew my mind.

In the scene where they are viewing the Yoyodyne "yellow file" showing photo ID's of all the "John's"... is John Parrot John Cleese? It looks like him to me, but I wanted to find others who have seen this recently and might know what I'm talking about here....

Not that I've noticed . . .
