Thanks for tagging me (really) -- I'll have to get to this when I get back from my trip. Post-Cliff Metallica -- that's certainly a story of a band that truly missed its bass player. Though he didn't write the songs (at least not many, if at all) or sing them, he really was the heart of that band. He brought the punk heart to the band which disappeared with his death. Master of Puppets is still my favorite metal album (and probably up there on my top twenty) -- even today it really is set apart from anything else.
