Mm, I'm betting LJ got a DMCA notice letter from one of the comic publishers. Once you get one of those, if you don't act immediately to end the infringement, you then lose your immunity for contributory infringement under the statute and you are in deep shit. The statutory damages are huge.
Unfortunately, some media companies use DMCA notice letters as threats to get rid of content that isn't actually infringing. Who knows, in this case?
