Vikings Were Pretty

The university's department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic has published a guide revealing how much of the Vikings' history has been misrepresented.

They did not, in fact, wear horned or winged helmets. And they appear to have been a vain race who were concerned about their appearance.

Seriously, the helmet thing drives me nuts. Particularly living in a state where the football mascot wears big stupid horns.

Not their fault. They were working off of the Victorian tradition, which added horns and feathers to all Viking headgear.

Yes, but this is a good sorting mechanism! Horns: piker. Bunad: um. Perhaps a tiny bit too invested in her own heritage, but not a piker.
