Other People's Dreams
Jan. 7th, 2008 09:42 amI had dreams last night that my feet no longer touched the ground, so I quit wearing shoes. I was carrying a baby, not my own. We weren't in danger, but I had a responsibility to keep the baby safe as I walked through an empty city. It was warm, and the streets were narrow. Someone--it might have been the baby's mother--was with us, walking just behind.
Kenya's Mess
Jan. 7th, 2008 10:17 amThe U.S. envoy says the vote was rigged, but either party could have been involved. Tens of thousands of Kikuyus are fleeing the violence, which is estimated to have taken nearly 500 lives and left 250,000 homeless. The NY Times has a very depressing slideshow of the devastation wrought by the violence. Odinga had called for more rallies, but now is apparently backing off of that until Ghanain president and AU chair John Kufuor arrives to mediate the conflict.
I don't have a heckuva lot of use for Gretchen Wilson (if "Redneck Woman" was an attempt to evoke country nostalgia, they could have done better than Charlie Daniels and Hank Jr.) but she really belts it out here: she's covering "Barracuda" with Alice in Chains backing, and you could swear it was Ann Wilson her own self.
