The slang actually makes no sense, if you think about it. What words change most quickly in a language? Words of contested meaning, words of shame or embarrassment, words with ambiguity and metaphorical overlay. "Hands" and "nose" and "egg" are not those kinds of words, not in English.
So I found the slang wicked distracting and obfuscating, and in a way it didn't need to be. I literally had to read the book out loud to myself in some sections just to make heads or tails of the prose.
(And, I mean, the content, okay it's been 40 years, but oh male adolescent hijinks oh EYEROLL.)
