Last day of temp job yesterday; I finished Ink and then read all of The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. (Yes, the one that inspired one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. Sadly, Maynard never appeared in the stories.) In every story Dobie not only pursues a different co-ed, but his life takes on small, sometimes pointless variations; he's a freshman majoring in Journalism, then he's a freshman in law school, he's an excellent student, he's in danger of flunking out, his father runs a small-town newspaper, his father is a grocer. Clearly he is trapped in the Vellum, and Woody Allen is an avatar of him. I'm just saying.
