Probably you won't be seeing much of me for the next week or so (unless you'll be at ReaderCon Yay!), but since I haven't seen many people linking to it, it's worth pointing out that Act One of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is live. Neil Patrick Harris is killing me, and Felicia Day SIGH. Next installment goes up Thursday.

As a bonus, here's a link to Donald Soffritti's blog, where he posts occasional portraits of superheroes in their old age. The blog is in Italian, but the pictures--like this one of Doctor Octopus--need no translation.

Just finished Superpowers. Did you pick the timeframe on purpose? The WTC disaster was certainly not vital to the plot - Caroline's mother could have died anywhere. Just curious.

I enjoyed it very much - there's a lot to think about.

I still don't understand why your quiz wanted me to be Mary Beth, though.

That quiz seems to have a mind of its own; it doesn't do what I thought it would do!

Sorry for taking so long to respond to your comment; I was on the road. I'm pleased that you enjoyed it. As to the question of why to include the 9/11 attacks, I wanted to address some of the concerns about power that came out of them and the aftermath--Mary Beth's actions at the end, in particular, grew quite specifically out of what was happening at that time.

Not a problem.
Ah... I see your point. Those reactions have become so stereotyped since then that I forgot that's where/when they started. I actually didn't look at it as a Muslim thing, but as that MaryBeth's patience had worn out - kind of like mine does when my son keeps repeating the same thing over and over and over and over...(you get the point, I'm sure)

Did you see the post where I mentioned my 12-year-old son read it in 2 days? He also enjoyed it. He kept wanting to know how they got their powers and if he could get two. But, then he's Aspie

I'm very happy that your son enjoyed it; one of the things that I've been unsure about is how adult a book it is, and how YA. A couple of people were asking me whether it would be appropriate for their 12- and 13-year-olds, and I had no good answer other than "depends on the kid."

Also, if I find an online superpowers store, I will be sure to pass the information on to you for him :-)
