Good:

"Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip." For Judd Hirsch, and for Matthew Perry. Amanda Peet, not so much. But wow.

Samuel Delany's About Writing. This one gets a Holy Shit. It's kind of blowing me away, and I'm only on the Introduction. I mostly don't believe in books about writing, but this one rocks.

Bad:

Talk Like a Pirate Day. It wasn't that funny the first time. Seriously, shut up.

Harlan Ellison suing Fantagraphics. Maybe Harlan should set aside his ego in favor of his "lifelong interest in comics," since Fantagraphics does so much for the medium in terms of both contemporary and hard-to-find classic works. "Tiny but hostile" indeed.

because clearly a random person ranting will be less publicly damaging to Harlan than making a case out of it.

Is there a word for a person addicted to litigation?

I was lukewarm about Amanda Peet. What didn't you like about her or her performance?

To be clear, I didn't hate her; but I didn't buy her as a network prez, either, mainly because she doesn't seem old enough. That, and she just came across as too smug and idealized for me to be engaged with her character.

Oh. See, I stopped reading that post because I didn't want you spoiling me. Which you would have.

How did you see the show a month and a half ago?

They released the pilot early on Netflicks, and it was leaked on the internets.

Wow. Wasn't Hec involved in some of the original interviews Fantagraphics did with Ellison way back when Harlan was trying "to magnamously [sic] assist a then-struggling writer"?

You know, you might be right; but I'm not sure of the context of the Hec/Harlan connection.

I have faith in Amanda Peet. I think she's a firecracker, and we've only just begun to see what she can bring to this series.
