I was a big fan of Ryan Murphy's surreal/satirical/campy/ridiculous show Popular back in the day. And now there's Glee; the pilot aired last night, but if you missed it you can watch it at Hulu.

My only question is WHY DO I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL FALL FOR MORE OF THIS?!?

I just watched that on Hulu! What a strange experience. It was so conventional and stereotype-laden in some ways but at the same time it was fascinatingly weird and cracked and... heartfelt? I liked it; I am very curious to see where it goes.

HEY GUESS WHAT WE CAN TALK ABOUT THE SHOW WHEN WE SEE EACH OTHER IN PERSON, THAT'S RIGHT, IN PERSON

Where did you get a recording of me complaining about those Fox execs?

I watched it on Hulu today, too. I hearted it big time, even with the stereotype-laden and conventional stuff amid the weird. I CAN'T WAIT for next fall either. Also, it's set in a NE Ohio town, which is even better! ;-)

I was really happy to see it set somewhere other than generic L.A.!

It is a bit heavy on the stereotypes, but I'm hopeful that it'll follow up on Popular and ruthlessly mess with those.

Yay! I liked it too! If I didn't think Chris would claw his eyes out over the music, I'd make him watch the pilot as well. :)

That last number gave me chills, I gotta say. I think the music is great!

Actually, I made Chris watch it anyway, and he really enjoyed it. We did fastforward through the big dance number at the other school, but he survived the rest.

I thought it was hilarious but I curl up into a little ball of embarrassment when I see shows where teenagers have musical sequences. It reminds me of my theatre saturated high school days and I just want to die. And that Tracy Flick girl reminded me of like 10 sopranos I used to know, so I kind of want her character to get mono because I can't take it. But I thought it was really cute and funny and Jane Lynch is glorious for all 2 minutes of screen time she had. Also that redhead girl was adooooorable.

Jane Lynch is so great. I love that the soprano girl is really unlikeable and yet also one of the heroes, too!

I gotta say, I absolutely loved their renditions of Rehab and Don't Stop Believin'. Especially in the last number, there seems to be this infectious joy and amazing chemistry developing between the characters. I'm sure people much more analytical than I shall pick apart every nuance of the episode, but it certainly made me happy for a time. :>

Thanks for the Hulu link, it's wonderful being able to watch the parts I like over and over.

Don't Stop Believin' gave me goosebumps! I'm just going to keep playing it over and over again until the fall.
