First of all, NOTE MY SHINY NEW ICON. Who's a fanboy? (That would be me.)

Second, if you love Grover, you should watch this video of his greatest rival delirious with pain. Hilarious, but not safe for those without a tiny bit of the sadist in them. (Via BoingBoing.)

Gingerbread Bergen. While you're on Flickr, check out this elephant migration.

David Moles has some thoughts on characterization.

Apparently I'm just not that much of a gadget geek. Or maybe my standards are too high? I mean, that iPhone is pretty, but until they have a model that holds 80GB of music and doesn't require me to switch to Cingular, no thanks.

Ashleigh Banfield is coming back to TV. Must. Find. Court TV.*

Strange Horizons has a podcast? Just put this address (www.strangehorizons.com/podcast.xml) into your iTunes, and listen to the sweet dulcet tones of Susan Marie Groppi as she updates you on all sorts of things. Coooool.

Bruce Campbell RULES. Now I have to start wearing Old Spice.

*Occassionally I am shallow. Live with it.

Aw, I was gonna make that into an icon! That eyepatch sure makes Xander look badass.

And I will buy anything Bruce Campbell sells.

It does! I had to think for a second who that might be. (And you're welcome to steal the icon if you wish.)

Bruce is King.

No no no. You are *AWESOME.*

(I'm shallow. I'm trying to figure out if David Bowie actually has a singing style of his own, or if he's just been pastiching Marc Bolan and Iggy Pop all these years...)

Someone has to be. It's the burden I bear. [Sigh.]

Have you heard the Bowie at the Beeb stuff? Puts an interesting spin on the whole thing. He actually sounds younger, in more ways than one.

The really ancient post-Hippie stuff? Some of it. There's one video on youtube where the poor child can't decide if he's trying to copy Elvis or Mick Jagger.

Fortunately, he figured it out.

My high standards kept me from getting an iPod, back in the days when I had money. Now I want one, and I have no money.

(Ooo, but there's Old Spice in the medicine cabinet...)

But you were right to hold out! They're much better now. And they'll get cheaper eventually . . . one hopes . . .

See? SEE?

When we abandon Grover, we abandon hope.

Bruce Campbell is, indeed, fucking wonderful. Oh how I adore him. Ashleigh Banfield? Never heard of her before, and her hair is all wrong, and I hate her pointy chin. And I'll bet she has seven thousand pairs of shoes.

She was a big presence on MSNBC during and right after the 9/11 mess; she was right out on the streets while it was happening and had some of the most amazing coverage anywhere--then they gave her a show and sent her over to Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc. It was awesome, because she went to some CRAZY places, and was never "embedded," and reported some stories that I suspect the Bushies and their buddies would rather she didn't. But for some reason no one was watching, and the show got cancelled. (Either that or the MSNBC bosses were uncomfortable with the stories she was covering, which seems just as plausible if not more so.) She got some heat for a speech where she blasted the coverage of the war in Iraq a few years ago. So, yeah, I'm kind of in love with her. She's a little bit like Christiane Amanpour, except not quite as daredevil, and without the accent. But with the glasses. I could forgive her the shoes. (Sadly she is married and has a child. Well, sadly for me, not her.)
