We have now moved beyond "coat" weather to "coat with a hoodie underneath" weather. I expect to whine about it for a week or so and then get on with my life.

Shana points out that the NY Times has caught up on the "elephants can tell us apart" story. Just more proof that Elephants deserve citizenship. And pets. (Which will not wear sweaters. Unless they are us.) Look here! Elephants are empathetic! And possibly misogynistic! In other elephant news, I just finished Gentlemen of the Road and it's my favorite Chabon yet. Could have used more elephants, though.

Remember this Dove ad? Someone's done a mashup of that ad and those of another Unilever product--Axe body spray. Corporate hypocrisy: we haz it.

I really don't know what to think of this. Fitness and language tapes for the Japanese? This may be the weirdest video you have ever seen.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

I blame Canada for the weather. I think they'll be invading soon.

Are you excited because of the hockey, the politics, or the weather?

I can get behind the first two, but I think I'm cold enough.

I fear that global warming is going to force me to move to Churchill one of these days. I require the really cold days in the winter to reset my brain every year. When I didn't get them when I lived in California, a bit of The Crazy ensued. That week in January when it never gets above zero Fahrenheit? I need that. I don't enjoy it, but I need it.

They have those nasty swift clippers built in Alberta; perfect for freezing, then boarding . . .

I find it is "coat with a hoodie, two t-shirts, a scarf, and warm socks weather." I intend to complain about it until it becomes all of the above plus long underwear weather, at which point I will complain more.

Your plan is perhaps a better one.

Now I see that my mistake was wearing nothing under the coat.

Live and learn!

Hmm, I guess I would have been more surprised if elephants couldn't tell people apart by their scent.

I think what is being remarked upon is that they can distinguish us by "tribe."
